Strategy
Part of Planning B2B social selling around a commercial decision, not a content calendar
A five-line B2B social selling strategy that links one account problem to a review gate
Build a B2B social selling strategy framework for England that connects one account problem to a channel, sales hand-off and review gate with clear evidence.
A practical B2B social selling strategy framework links one English account group to a documented problem, a suitable social route and a sales decision. It also states what evidence would stop the work. Without those links, a content calendar is merely an activity schedule. The wider strategy and planning guide shows how this framework fits a commercial decision.
What to take away
- A five-line strategy links accounts, evidence, channel, hand-off and a review decision.
- Platform measures such as impressions and clicks cannot show buying authority or revenue.
- Name owners for claims, publishing, eligibility, contact, objections, data protection and recovery.
- Set the review date and minimum evidence before work begins, then continue, change or stop.
- One tender notice proves one procurement, not a broad market trend.
Write a five-line strategy
Complete these statements before selecting software or formats:
Five strategy statements

- This channel can help by...
- Sales accepts a hand-off when...

Avoid adjectives such as "high value" unless a threshold defines them. If England refers to delivery sites rather than registered offices, put that rule in the first line.
Illustrative fill for a named English account group, Leeds City Council. This shows the form, not a claim about that council's current buying.
- We include Leeds City Council when a published requirement matches our offer.
- Their current problem is evidenced by a live Find a Tender notice with a Leeds place of performance.
- This channel can help by explaining that published requirement in a named specialist's Page post.
- Sales accepts a hand-off when the council asks for a scoping call.
- At the review date, we will continue, change or stop if no live requirement or scoping call is recorded.
The Office for National Statistics business activity, size and location data distinguishes enterprises from local units and offers registered-business cuts by industry, employment and geography. This can bound a population. It cannot show which organisations have a buying problem or want contact.
Link the problem to an observed event
Use recent account evidence: a published requirement, changed process, buyer interview, support record or opportunity note. Date it and preserve the original source. A tender notice with an English contract location may be stronger evidence of a live requirement than a profile view.
For example, a Find a Tender notice that names an English place of performance, such as Sheffield, is England-specific evidence for one procurement. Even then, the notice applies to one procurement and its own timetable.
Observation vs assumption
Observation
- Example
- Published tender on 4 May
- Verification
- Notice verifies it
- Action
- Date and preserve source
Assumption
- Example
- Will respond to our post
- Verification
- Until account acts
- Action
- Write beside observation
Find a Tender explains the planning, tender, award, contract and termination records available under its current UK arrangements. Check the stage and amendments. Do not infer a broad market trend from one notice.
Write the team's explanation beside the observation, not inside it. "The account published a tender on 4 May" is an observation if the notice verifies it. "The account will respond to our technical post" is an assumption until the account acts.
Give each channel one job
Choose whether the route must explain, distribute, start a private conversation or collect a declared response, and write the choice into your channel strategy. A named specialist's post may answer a technical question.
A company Page can carry an authorised organisational statement. A direct message can continue a relevant exchange. A paid form can gather information from someone who chooses to submit it.
Page content analytics report estimated impressions, reach, clicks and interactions. Those measures can confirm recorded platform activity. They cannot demonstrate purchasing authority or revenue. State the next non-platform event required, such as an accepted meeting or qualified hand-off.
Add control and ownership
Name who approves claims, publishes, checks account eligibility, sends contact, responds to objections and records the sales result, as the team roles guide sets out.
The ICO's direct marketing guidance sets out an identify, plan, collect and respect sequence for marketing that uses personal information. A qualified reviewer must apply the relevant data-protection and PECR rules to the chosen route.
Include a publishing recovery owner as well. NCSC guidance on protecting what you publish covers authorised access, 2-step verification and an emergency recovery plan for organisational social accounts.
Define the review gate
Use three of the key metrics with explicit denominators: delivery, buyer action and commercial acceptance.
For example, set a quarterly gate at 20 eligible posts published, 8 of those 20 posts producing a relevant account response, and 2 of those 8 responses accepted by sales as qualified hand-offs. These are illustrative thresholds, not a forecast.
Set the date and minimum evidence before work begins. Stop if location rules fail, claims cannot be approved, objections are not recorded or platform responses cannot be joined to the sales record. Modify the channel if the problem is verified but the expected action does not appear. Continue only when the next investment can answer a sharper question.
Before you act
- Write the five strategy statements before choosing software or formats.
- Date each observation and keep the original source.
- Give every channel one jobexplain, distribute, converse or collect.
- Name who approves claims and who owns publishing recovery.
- Apply data protection and PECR rules to the chosen route.
- Set the review date and minimum evidence before work starts.
Common questions
What makes a content calendar more than an activity schedule?
It records dates and formats. The five-line strategy also names the account problem, the social route, the hand-off and the stop rule.
Why can platform analytics not prove commercial success?
They record platform activity only. Purchasing authority and revenue require a non-platform event such as an accepted meeting or qualified hand-off.
When should the team stop the work?
Stop when the agreed minimum evidence is absent or the sales record cannot be joined to the platform response. Change the channel if the verified problem does not produce the expected action.
